The importance of having ‘real’ photos

The other day I was round at my mum’s house and we came across a box full of old photos.  We were howling with laughter, and also felt just a tad nostalgic too.  There were photos from past holidays, grandparents who are no longer with us, old pets, parents, fun times, hazy times, weddings and some very, very dodgy school photos!!!

It was a great time to reminisce about the old times, and do a lot of cringing too.  It did bring it home though just how important it is to have photos taken on a regular basis.  My mum had religiously dated every photo on the back, which meant that with every photo you looked at, the memories just came flooding back as to where we were, and the situations that we were in when the shutter was pressed.

There was such a huge range of emotions when looking at this snapshot of history.

Grandparents…

Wedding photos…

Holidays….

New additions…

Graduations…

And some very dodgy hairstyles!!

Time goes by so, so quickly, and it is so important to record all those memories so that in 30 years time you can look back with your children and grandchildren and tell them all the tales associated with each image.  Don’t just keep them hidden away on a memory stick or the hard drive of a computer.  Get them printed and touch them.  When you hold a photo in your hands, you are holding a piece of history and all the emotions that come with it.  Don’t make the mistake of thinking technology is future-proof.  Remember these??!!
